Our Impact in Teso sub-region
Empowering Vulnerable Women and Girls At-Risk (EVWGAR)
The EVWGAR project, implemented by Youth With A Focus Teso (YWAFT), is dedicated to improving the livelihoods of 100 vulnerable women and girls in Soroti District, Uganda. Through a blend of sustainable agricultural practices and Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) initiatives, this project has fostered economic independence, enhanced nutrition, and promoted community resilience.
Key Project Highlights:
Capacity Building:
We conducted specialized training for 100 women and girls in organic
vegetable cultivation, coffee farming, beekeeping, and financial management through VSLA
groups.
This training empowered participants with sustainable skills to improve household
incomes.
Demonstration Plots:
Four demonstration plots were set up across the Agirigiroi, Odudui,
Dakabela, and Arabaka parishes, providing practical learning environments for beneficiaries and
local farmers to adopt organic farming techniques.
Farm Input Distribution:
Distributed 600 coffee seedlings, 500 fruit seedlings, and 20 packets
of vegetable seeds.
We also procured 16 beehives, with all hives successfully colonized, setting
the foundation for honey production and income generation.
Community Outreach:
Raised awareness through radio talk shows, promotional adverts, and
distribution of educational materials on the benefits of sustainable agriculture and beekeeping.
Four public campaigns were held to promote women empowerment, agricultural innovation, and
community involvement.
Climate Change & Environmental Sustainability
Through initiatives like organic farming and the Empowerment of Vulnerable Rural Women and Girls At-Risk (EVWGAR) project, YWAFT promotes sustainable agricultural practices. The organization also emphasizes environmental conservation by encouraging climate-smart agriculture, tree planting, and soil fertility improvement through Sustainable organic vegetable cultivation, coffee growing, and beekeeping in the Teso region, aimed at building resilience against climate change impacts.
