Why this work matters
Climate resilience begins with practical, locally owned farming solutions.
Smallholder farming becomes increasingly difficult when rainfall is unreliable, soils lose fertility and households have limited access to resilient practices, inputs and information.
YWAFT works with farmers through demonstration plots, practical learning and access to productive inputs. Communities test locally appropriate approaches that improve production, diversify livelihoods and strengthen household nutrition.
Climate-smart agriculture connects environmental stewardship with economic opportunity. When farmers can protect soils, manage water, diversify crops and learn together, communities are better prepared for climate and market shocks.
The challenge
Food systems are vulnerable when farms cannot adapt to changing conditions.
Unpredictable weather, declining soil health, limited inputs and weak market connections can combine to reduce harvests, incomes and household food security.
