Limited finance
Without savings or suitable capital, households struggle to invest in productive activities and manage economic shocks.
Programme 03
Building practical skills, savings capacity, productive livelihoods and stronger pathways to economic independence.
Why this work matters
Women and young people can have strong ideas and determination yet remain constrained by limited capital, livelihood skills, productive assets and access to markets.
YWAFT supports practical learning in sustainable agriculture, enterprise, financial management and Village Savings and Loan Association approaches. Participants strengthen their ability to plan, save, invest and develop income-generating activities.
Economic empowerment is connected to food security, gender equality, climate resilience and leadership. When women and young people gain skills and greater control over resources, the benefits extend to households and the wider community.
The challenge
Limited access to finance, productive assets, technical knowledge and reliable markets can keep capable women and young people in insecure livelihoods.
Without savings or suitable capital, households struggle to invest in productive activities and manage economic shocks.
Limited enterprise, financial-management and technical knowledge can constrain otherwise promising livelihood activities.
Producers need dependable information, relationships and routes to sell goods at fair and sustainable value.
Gender inequality and poverty can restrict women’s control over resources, leadership and economic decision-making.
Our approach
YWAFT combines group learning, practical production, financial capability and community support so that participants can build resilient livelihoods.
Practical training strengthens planning, entrepreneurship, record-keeping and income-generating skills.
VSLA approaches help participants save regularly, manage money and mobilise resources through trusted groups.
Sustainable agriculture, beekeeping and farm inputs translate learning into practical livelihood opportunities.
Capacity building encourages participants to engage markets, make informed decisions and take leadership roles.
Featured initiative
Through EVWGAR, YWAFT combined sustainable agriculture and Village Savings and Loan Association activities to strengthen livelihoods, nutrition and community resilience for vulnerable women and girls in Soroti District.

Community in action
“Skills, savings and productive assets can turn determination into lasting opportunity.”
Through group learning and practical livelihood activities, participants build knowledge they can apply in farming, saving and household decision-making. YWAFT’s approach connects individual capability with collective support and locally owned economic action.
